Well now you shake it to the left Shake it to the right, Do the hippy shake shake With all of your might

We went to the Polynesian Cultural Center yesterday, up in the northeast corner of the island. . .  a little town named Le-ai I think.  Had a great time!  Thanks Barbara!

The luau was fun!

I got lei-ed again.  Only my third time in 16 years. . . .
A long dry spell.  :-)

Charlie didn't know what to make of the Maori Warrior dance. . . .

He and Teddy made some new girlfriends. . . .  (Wish I'd been as lucky!)

The "shaka" sign (aka the "Hang Loose" sign) originated with this fella in the 1950s.  Some locals used to tell the story that three of his fingers were bitten off by a shark, and when he waved to his friends and to tourists, it looked like those three fingers were curled instead of missing.  Truth of the story, tho is that he lost them in a cannery factory accident!

Cricket and I each had a humongeous pina-colada. . . .

Charlie and cousin Dez enjoyed the boat show from good seats. . . .

Charlie drank himself under the table. . . .   okay, NOT.  But for awhile there, he seemed to have more fun under the tablecloth than ABOVE it. . . .

The Big Kahuna was a nice lady.  She did a great job of "M.C.'ing."

Family photo. . . .

Charlie loved to swing the balls. . . .

Earlier in the day, and the day before, I took these photos of the back deck of our "little grass hut," the 'bird sanctuary' in the middle of the lagoon out back, and a partial view of the hills surrounding the lagoon.

Today we go to Pearl Harbor.

To be continued. . . .

P.S.  At the luau there was an 8-year-old kid who did the fire-batons.  I took video of it but can't figure out yet just how to download it.  Will keep trying.  He was very impressive.

Still wish you were here. . . .
